MMA Film “Warrior” Sneak Preview Over Labor Day Weekend
From the director of Miracle comes another sports drama—one that sets two brothers against each other in the championship match of a mixed martial arts tournament. The film’s distributor, Lionsgate, recently announced that Warrior will hit screens for a sneak preview this Labor Day weekend, a few days ahead of its official release date of Sept. 9.
The sports drama genre includes some of the greatest cinematic moments ever filmed. MMA, however, has gone unrecognized, mostly because the sport is relatively new, having achieved its popularity within the past decade. Finally, fans and MMA athletes can watch a movie on the big screen that portrays the heart and athleticism that distinguish this intense sport.
Film Summary from Lionsgate:
Haunted by a tragic past, U.S. Marine Tommy Conlon [Tom Hardy] returns home for the first time in 14 years to enlist the help of his father [Nick Nolte] to train for Sparta, the biggest winner-take-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan [Joel Edgerton], an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in a soul-stirring and unforgettable climax.
