It’s no secret the 2011 NFL Draft class is loaded with defensive line talent, especially near the top of the class.
According to one source close to the situation, NFL personnel are enamored of DT Terrell McClain from the University of South Florida—and STACK has been keeping close tabs on him since the start of the Draft process, dating back to the NFL Combine.
In fact, coaches and scouts from 30 of the 32 NFL teams—including New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith—were in attendance to see McClain, who was the headliner at the U. of South Florida Pro Day earlier this month. One NFL scout rated his workout tops among defensive linemen from all the SEC and ACC schools that participated.
“I did a good job with the drills, running through [them] all smoothly and showing the scouts that I’m in shape,” McClain says. “I think I presented myself as the total package by doing a good job at the Pro Day.”
The always-humble McClain continues, “I hope that translates to showing the coaches I am a good player and I deserve to be considered in that group of elite D-tackles [in the Draft].”
McClain displayed elite speed for a big man, running the 40 in 4.82 seconds on his first attempt and following up with a 4.95, which beat his best official Combine time of 4.98 seconds.
Since his Pro Day, McClain has met with and worked out for several teams, including the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers. Now he is simply counting the days to the Draft and looking forward to discovering what the future holds.
Check back after the NFL Draft for a follow-up interview with McClain.
