Mystery Series ‘Montauk’ to Air on Netflix
An 8-episode supernatural mystery series titled Montauk has been ordered by Netflix. Although the plot details are a little sketchy, the show will take place in 1980 and revolve around the baffling disappearance of a young boy in the community of Montauk, located in East Hampton, Long Island. The program is being promoted as a “love letter to the ’80s classics.”
Set against the picturesque backdrop of a major tourist destination noted for its wineries and beach homes, the exciting action of this series will contrast sharply with the peaceful and idyllic area. This is no simple missing person’s case. According to Entertainment Weekly, it involves: “top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl.”
The series will be written and directed by twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. After creating a number of horror shorts, including We All Fall Down, the prodigious duo recently made their feature film directorial and screenwriting debut with the thriller Hidden, starring Alexander Skarsgard.
Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president for original content, said in a statement: “Matt and Ross are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense. Their unique voice infuses this coming-of-age drama with supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience.”
The show will be available on Netflix beginning next year.
