‘NBA 2K16’ Will Feature ‘Most Extensive Soundtrack’ in Series History
When NBA 2K16 arrives in September, the game will have an impressive soundtrack, curated by some of the music industry’s top producers. 2K recently revealed that they enlisted DJ Premier, DJ Khaled and DJ Mustard to create a playlist of more than 50 tracks spanning several genres.
“I am honored to collaborate with NBA 2K, which is such a distinguished brand and one of my favorite video games,” said Khaled. “Basketball and music are two of my favorite things, and I’m excited to light up the soundtrack with my signature sound. Expect the hottest tracks and of course hit music when you press the start button on NBA 2K16! We the Best! Who?!! NBA 2K16 that’s who!!!”
DJ Premier echoed those sentiments, adding, “I am excited to be a part of the ongoing series of NBA 2K. As a sports fan, it was already fun before the work began. NBA 2K16 will be another big hit, especially alongside DJ Mustard and DJ Khaled bringing our different musical styles to the game.”
The music will be split across six in-game playlists. Each producer will have his own special mix, in addition to an international “around the world” playlist, a 2K Classics mixtape featuring fan favorites from past years, and a playlist including all the tracks. Players will also have in-game access to six exclusive new instrumentals from the producers via MyPLAYER and MyGM.
Among the songs included in the mix are “Blitzkrieg Bop” from the 1970s punk band The Ramones; the DJ Premier-produced single “Represent,” off Nas’s critically-acclaimed debut Illmatic; and Zedd’s “I Want You to Know,” featuring singer Selena Gomez.
