New App a First for Cooperative Gaming Screen Play
Get ready for a new multi-player gaming experience, one that uses the power of Bluetooth’s short range wireless connectivity to link multiple iOS screens for cooperative screen play. Now you can forget the frustration of small-screen play and use iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches in tandem for multi-screen play.
Developed by the Canadian digital agency Kolody, Johnny Test: Roller Johnny ($.99 per download) allows play to roll from screen to screen and back again, or to straddle multiple screens at the same time. Sure, the game is geared to a younger audience—you can play as Johnny Test or his dog Dukey and try to beat bad guys Spike and Bullet by whirling around the track and squeezing them out—but the interactive aspect makes it worth noting.
According to Mashable, Kolody says Johnny Test: Roller Johnny is the first iOS cooperative screen play game of its kind; and that Kolody worked with Apple’s mobile development team on this ground-breaking iPhone app. The game is a fun way to compete against your crew.
The new app was released recently, but Kolody is already working on an update that will allow similar play using Wi-Fi connectivity if Bluetooth is unavailable. Also, if you’re not interested in playing with others, you can choose single-player mode.
We’re excited to see where this technology will lead. Hopefully, other game developers will take note and use co-operative screen play for future games, thereby making team trips even more enjoyable.
