Now Hear This: Young Duece and Zebras In Public
Welcome to Cincinnati—home to some incredible musical talent, artists who ignore the boundaries of mainstream genres and deliver excellent tunes for a pre-game boost or a post-game cool-down. We recently caught a show featuring two very different bands local to the region: Young Duece and Zebras In Public. We quickly concluded that both bands would make great additions to any STACKlete’s playlist.
Young Duece
This hip hop duo calls Cincinnati home. Previn Ricks (PJ a.k.a. Da Truth) and George Clark III (Kidd Flow) have been performing their smooth, melodic sounds since 2005, when they released their first full-length album, The Beginning of the End.
These 21-year-old rappers are musical gurus, handling everything from production to promotion. In charge of YD’s media outlets, Flow uses his digital design skills to create album covers, flyers and music videos. PJ focuses on writing, making creative beats and putting the finishing touches on the production side of their tracks.
Head over to Young Duece’s Facebook page, or visit iTunes or amazon.com to purchase albums. They make perfect beats for relaxing after a hard workout or physical game.
Zebras In Public
This band also throws genre to the wind, playing everything from rock and metal to funk and rap. Their interesting name comes from a belief that the “public” is one. Race and religion don’t matter. They say, “We all bleed and breathe the same.” They take pride in their different backgrounds and use them to fuel their music.
The group’s energy level, sustained throughout the show, was astounding—a workout in itself. These guys are masters of their craft, and they let you know it on stage. Zebediah provides vocals for the group, backed by Chris [drums], Ian [guitar] and Justin [guitar]. If you enjoy bands like Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix and Rage Against the Machine, these guys will get you pumped up for any occasion with their original tunes.
