New Nike Free Run+ 3 Goes a Cool Distance to Perfect Nearly Barefoot Running
Looking for a barefoot shoe with just the right combination of support, durability and agility? The Nike Free Run+ 3, set for a spring 2012 release, promises exactly that.
Earlier this year, the Free Run+ 2 became a Nike bestseller by improving on the original Free Run with more strategically placed support and a lighter design. The Free Run+ 3 takes the shoe a step further, remaining at 8.7 ounces but adding even better support.
The Free Run+ series has earned praise from barefoot runners for its smart cushioning system, which provides protection from the pavement while allowing the foot to function naturally. The Free Run+ 3 retains Phylite midsole cushioning but modifies the sole flex groove pattern to better support the arch. It also improves durability with a stronger toe box and reinforced hard rubber wear points on the heel and toe. These tweaks should help runners log more miles without wearing down their bodies or their shoes.
The Free Run+ 3 upper features a mesh construction that not only looks great and weighs less, but also offers ventilation to keep the foot cool.
Colorways that have been announced so far include Chrome Yellow, Gym Red and Soar (blue).
