New Year's Eve Fight Preview: Dream's Fight for Japan
On Dec. 31, Dream will hold its “Fight for Japan” event at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. This event looks to attract MMA fans—despite the fact that UFC will sponsor an event on the same night.
Fight for Japan has a strong card lined up, including two title fights and a bantamweight tournament. One of the biggest bouts is the lightweight title fight between Shinya Aoki and Satoru Kitaoka. Aoki, the current Dream Lightweight Champion and a heavy favorite, is a submission specialist who holds a 29-5-1 record. Entering his title defense on a six-fight win streak, he looks to finish off Kitaoka early in the match. Kitaoka is a veteran of the sport and a former Sengoku Lightweight Champion. Also a submission specialist, he will be a tough opponent for Aoki. Fans can expect an exciting ground match and a great battle.
Also defending his belt on Dec. 31, Hiroyuki Takaya will take on hard-nosed contender Takeshi “Lion” Inoue. Lion’s record is 21-5, with 10 of his victories coming by knockout. Don’t count the champ out, though—Takaya has 11 knockout wins of his own, some against aggressive American opponents. Make sure to tune in for this fight, because it promises to be a great striking match.
The final event on the card, the Dream Bantamweight Tournament, will feature four tough fighters: Bibiano Fernandes vs. Rodolfo Marques Diniz, and Antonio Banuelos vs. Masakazu Imanari. The tournament is by far the highlight of the night, and all the men involved must be ready for battle. The winners will face off for the Bantamweight Belt.
