New York Knicks Rookie Kristaps Porzingis Eats 5,000 Calories Per Day

New York Knicks 1st-round draft pick Kristaps Porzingis has been eating three steaks a day to gain weight prior to the season.

There's no other way to say it: New York Knicks first-round draft pick Kristaps Porzingis is a skinny dude. So skinny, in fact, that we dedicated an entire article to outlining ways the Latvia native could get bigger so he can deal with the physicality of the NBA. At 7-foot-2 and roughly 230 pounds, Porzingis needs to gain at least 20 pounds before he can even think of holding his own against the likes of Anthony Davis (who was once pretty skinny himself) or Timofey Mozgov.

The good news: Porzingis knows he needs to gain weight and add muscle. And he's got a plan. Porzingis says his goal all summer has been to gain 15 pounds by eating 5,000 calories per day, and he's been doing so by chomping down on three steaks per day. He says he's currently four pounds short of his goal, but since training camp is still a few weeks away, he shouldn't have much of a problem getting there.

The Knicks are hoping Porzingis can form a nice 1-2 punch with Carmelo Anthony. To do that, Porzingis needs to be able to play both inside and out. Maybe adding a fourth steak to his daily consumption is not a bad idea.
