NFL Suspends Johnny Manziel for 4 Games
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was suspended for four games Thursday for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, according to TMZ.
Though Manziel is not on an NFL roster, he wouldn’t be able to play in the first four games of the upcoming season if a team signed him. The suspension doesn’t roll over, however; it would not hold be imposed in the 2017-2018 season.

Since the Browns released Manziel in March because of off-field issues, the former Texas A&M quarterback has traveled a slippery slope.
In April, Manziel was indicted on a misdemeanor charge following a domestic violence complaint by his ex-girlfriend. Also, Manziel and his friends rented a $4.5 million house in Los Angeles, then proceeded to wreck it to the extent of having to pay $32,000 in damage fees.
In May, a photo showing a skinny Manziel at a pool party in Las Vegas was released, and some of his friends expressed great concern for his well-being.
Last Friday, Bob Hinton, Manziel’s lawyer, accidentally texted the Associated Press details of Manziel’s domestic violence case.
Through it all, Manziel’s father Paul has publicly expressed concern. In February, he said Johnny wouldn’t see his 24th birthday if he didn’t get his life together. He recently called his son a druggie, and said that going to jail would be the best place for him to go.
On Wednesday, Manziel said he would go completely sober starting July 1 in preparation for making an NFL comeback.
