Rap News Rundown: Nicki Minaj, Bobby Shmurda, Rich Homie Quan
Nicki Minaj & Ex Argue On Twitter; Minaj Linked to Meek Mill
With the promotion of her latest album, The Pinkprint, more details have been released about Minaj’s relationship with her former boyfriend, Safaree Samuels. The Young Money rapper recently took to Twitter to air him out, seeming to accuse him of trying to blackmail her with videos. “No one puts fear in my heart!!!! Cuz I know God is real!!!! He’s seen me be loyal to the point [people] said I was stupid. So dig [your] grave,” wrote the performer. “…Told [you] it was the wrong move. I sheltered and protected [you] for years. Loyal for years. Come on. Selling vids? Cuz I’m happy now? Disgusting.”
Samuels responded by suggesting that her rant was another ploy to promote her album and paint herself as the victim. “.. I [don’t know] what [you’re] talking about at all!! I would never do that,” he wrote.
Gossip sites are reporting the Minaj may have moved on from Samuels and into a relationship with recently released rapper Meek Mill, but she has denied that she is anything more than friends with the MMG rapper.
Bobby Shmurda Arrested, Charged With Murder & Weapon Possession
Things have gone from bad to worse for Bobby Shmurda. The New York rapper with one hit single under his belt was poised to establish himself in the music business, but it looks instead like he’ll be spending a considerable amount of time either behind bars or fighting to stay out of jail. He was arrested last week alongside many in his GS9 crew and hit with a 69-count indictment, including reckless endangerment, several gun charges, gang conspiracy, attempted murder, murder, drug trafficking and assault. His bail is set at $2 million.
The charges are reportedly a result of a two-year investigation involving the NYPD and a special narcotics prosecutor. Authorities reportedly turned their attention to the rapper and his clique due to a number of violent incidents involving them and other Brooklyn-based gangs and concern that they were pulling in income from the sale of cocaine. At the time of the arrest, police found at least 10 weapons and a small quantity of crack.
The 20-year-old, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, has since pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer, Howard Greenberg, suggests the investigation and charges are nothing more than further proof of the government’s war against rap and rappers. This is the third time Shmurda has been arrested in about six months. Earlier this year, he was arrested for drug possession and felony gun possession.
Rich Homie Quan Addresses Young Thug Relationship
Rich Homie Quan has finally addressed questions concerning the nature of his relationship with fellow Atlanta rapper Young Thug. Rumors popped up that the two were lovers after Thugga referred to RHQ as his lover and hubbie on Instagram. Talking with Sway in the Morning, Quan defended his decision to not immediately respond to the rumors, then asserted that the two are not gay.
“First and foremost, I try not to get into all the comments, because it be so many, but at the same time I see them,” he said. “If I respond back to that, [then] that’s what they want me to do. Everyone in Atlanta know me and Young Thug is not gay. With Thug it’s different, it’s just his slang. I don’t think nothing of it or nothing. I know I ain’t gay, everybody know I ain’t gay… I get a joke out of it, ’cause it’s just so funny how people will take anything and run with it.”
