Nicolas Cage Headlines Horror Thriller ‘Mom and Dad’
Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair will star in the horror thriller Mom and Dad, about two parents who become violently aggressive toward their children after falling victim to a mysterious mass hysteria. The story is told from the perspective of a teenage girl and her little brother, who are forced to survive for 24 hours with their suddenly frightening and dangerous parents.
Some of the most powerful horror films have unlikely villains and creepiness in unexpected places. The unnerving premise of this movie is similar to M. Night Shyamalan’s 2015 small budget hit The Visit, about two kids who have to spend time alone in the country with their surprisingly sinister grandparents.
Mom and Dad is being written and directed by Brian Taylor, who previously directed Cage in the 2011 fantasy thriller Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Experienced with intense, edgy flicks, Taylor has written a number of action crime thrillers over the past decade, including Jonah Hex and Pathology.
Production on Mom and Dad begins in Kentucky next month, and the movie is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
Nicolas Cage will next be seen in the highly anticipated biographical drama Snowden, debuting September 16. The actor has a full slate of projects scheduled for release by the end of 2017, including the comedy Army of One with Rainn Wilson and the thriller Southern Fury co-starring John Cusack. Selma Blair’s most recent work includes her role as Kris Jenner in the hit TV event The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
