Nike Basketball Celebrates Anniversary With New Series
The game of basketball was reinvented 40 years ago when Nike Basketball designed two shoes specifically for the court: the Nike Bruin and the Nike Blazer. (Head to STACK’s Nike page for all things Nike-related.) Since then, Nike Basketball has continued changing the sport through the evolution of their footwear. On the first and third Tuesday of each month, Nike Basketball will unveil the concepts behind their shoes and apparel design on their official website. The content won’t stop there; in a series called “Inside Access,” it will also explore how the brand has helped shape athletes and unique moments on the court. Fans can tune in to the series to see how the shoes were developed, learn how material selection decisions were made, and hear athletes’ reactions to the final products.
In a statement, Tracy Teague, Nike Basketball Design Director, said, “‘Designed to the exact specifications of championship athletes’ is a philosophy that extends well beyond badges, labeling and marketing material. Our goal is to push performance innovation in footwear and apparel to new levels by giving athletes product they never imagined.”
Earlier this year, Nike Basketball celebrated its heritage by reflecting on 20 Nike shoes that were instrumental in changing the game. In addition to the Bruin and Blazer, they include the Air Max (watch the Nike director discuss the shoe), Nike Zoom, Tuned Air, Nike Hyperdunk (check out the Hyperdunk+), and the Nike Air Force 1.
