Nike Basketball Unveils New REACT Cushioning After More Than 2,000 Hours of Testing
It’s no secret that Nike has been the leader in the basketball footwear industry for quite some time now. Over the years they have continued to find ways to innovate and improve their basketball footwear technology, and the introduction of the new Nike REACT foam cushioning is the latest example.
The Nike REACT Hyperdunk 2017 and the Jordan Superfly 2017 will be the first shoes to debut this technology with a full-length Nike REACT Core upon their release on Aug. 3.
The Nike REACT foam is the brand’s solution to the difficulty of creating a foam cushioning that can be lightweight, responsive and durable all at once.
The Nike Sports Research Lab apparently poured over 2,000 hours of testing and data collecting into this project. Nike tested how athletes move, the force with which they move and used pressure maps to identify where athletes need support, all in order to create a cushion that produces greater energy return than any other Nike basketball foam tested.
The Nike REACT Hyperdunk 2017 Flyknit is the newest model in the Hyperdunk series which has been a staple in Nike Basketball’s product line since the original Hyperdunk was released in 2008.
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors appeared to be a fan after he became the first player to don the shoes when he wore them in this year’s NBA Finals. “This shoe is lightweight, it has a resilience in it. It has the bounce for sprinting and moving around just like I want to,” Green said at the global launch event for Nike REACT.
The Jordan Superfly 2017 will continue the Superfly line which has become a popular performer for Jordan Brand. The 2017 version will be worn by Jordan-sponsored athletes such as Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, who has been able to try the shoe and noted, “Right away you notice the responsiveness of Nike React … Whatever move you make, it goes along with you.”
Nike REACT is a part of Nike’s cushioning revolution, joining recent innovations like the Vapormax and ZoomX cushions, in an effort to bring athletes different options to enhance performance.
