A big screen thriller titled Nocturnal Animals is in the works with George Clooney producing and designer-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford set to direct.
The picture will be an adaptation of Austin Wright’s post-modern noir thriller novel Tony and Susan. Published in 1993, it’s about a woman named Susan and her ex-husband Edward, an unsuccessful author, whom she left long ago. After many years pass, Susan, now married to a doctor, gets a package from Edward containing the manuscript of his first novel and seeking her opinion of the material. But Edward’s violent and disturbing novel is more than a story; it forces Susan to confront her own fear and the dark truths about herself.
Ford also wrote the screenplay for this movie, his first since making his feature film screenwriting and directorial debut with the highly acclaimed drama A Single Man in 2009.
Clooney will produce via his Smokehouse banner. No word yet on whether he will have an onscreen role. The actor/filmmaker currently has two films in the works, the comedy Hail, Caesar! and the drama Money Monster. He will next be seen in the sci-fi mystery Tomorrowland, due out May 22.
