This Week's Top Rap Releases (Nov. 6)
It’s a busy week for rap releases. This week, look for projects from Saigon, French Montana, E-40 and others to drop.
Saigon, The Greatest Story Never Told: Chapter 2
Initially slated for release in Sept., Saigon’s sophomore effort drops this week. The project features collaborations with Styles P, Marsha Ambrosius, Lecrae, and Chamillionaire, among others. The New York MC tackles several topics, including the demise of artists and civic leaders who took a stand in Blown Away on the LP.
E-40 & Too Short, History: Function Music/Mob Music
West Coast veterans E-40 and Too Short teamed up to create a 34-track double disc album. Function Music aims to please the club crowd with tracks from Tyga, Travis Porter, Jeremih, and Ice Cube. Mob Music focuses more on West Coast gangsta rap, featuring collaborations with Kurupt and B-Legit. Check out their single “Say I,” featuring Taylor Gang representer Wiz Khalifa.
French Montana, Mac & Cheese 2 (mixtape)
Get ready for the third installment of French Montana’s Mac & Cheese mixtape series, the final prelude to his long awaited debut album, Excuse My French, which is scheduled to drop later this year. The Evil Empire-hosted project features his take on the Ice Cube classic, “It Was A Good Year,” complete with verses from Curren$y and Mac Miller. Rick Ross, Diddy, Meek Mill and French’s group Coke Boyz are also featured on the tape.
Mr. MFN eXquire, Power & Passion EP
Mr. MFN eXquire serves up the six-track Power & Passion EP to help tide fans over until his full length Universal Music Group debut hits stores next year. The project features two guest verses courtesy of Gucci Mane and Goldie Glo; and production from Dot Da Genius, SpaceGhostPurpp, El-P, and a few others. The result is praiseworthy as the NY MC continues to persevere in the war between the underground’s rough edges and the mainstream’s bland palette.
