Now Hear This: Wale
If you happen to find yourself on Jordan Brand’s website, you may wonder who the guy is featured in all the 2010 holiday gear. No, it’s not an NFL first-round draft pick or a European soccer star. It’s DC rapper Wale, born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin. Producer Mark Ronson discovered Wale in 2006, and signed him to Allido Records the next year. During that time, Wale emerged as one of indie hip hop’s best mixtape emcees. In 2008, he signed with Interscope Records, and his debut album, Attention Deficit, was released the following year.
Wale most likely caught the attention of Nike execs with his track, “Nike Boots” (video below). He is now the face of Jordan Brand’s 2010 Holiday collection.
One of our all-time Wale favorites is “Chillin’,” featuring Lady Gaga (video below).
Currently, Wale is in the studio with Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Roscoe Dash, Sean Garrett and Drumma Boy, working on his second album. To add an extra hop step to your next run or workout, hit up iTunes and download Wale’s music.
