This Week's Top Indie Releases (Oct. 30)
The best of the indie releases slated for Oct. 30 are projects from artists that have lent their talents to multiple groups in the past.
Rush Midnight, +1 (EP)
Rush Midnight is the solo project of Russ Manning, former bassist for Twin Shadow. Created while he was touring across the world, the EP displays a variety of influences; however, the prevailing mood throughout is whimsy. This is perfect background music for a relaxed party on a fall night, when nothing but the promise of good things awaits you.
Skye, Back to Now
Trip-hop fan? Look no further than Morcheeba frontwoman Skye and her third solo record, Back to Now. A follow-up to 2009’s Keeping Secrets, the project once again finds the singer working with producer/husband Steve Gordon. But this time, she has also picked up production from Fitzmaurice. The collaboration brings a different feel to this new collection of songs, but the backbone remains Skye’s voice and undeniable appeal.
Tom Tom Club, Downtown Rockers
Tom Tom Club is known for making fun pop dance music that insists you move your feet; and their latest project is no different. It may be their first official project in over ten years, but the group hasn’t missed a beat. Most don’t even realize they are fans of the duo’s music, but their song “Genius of Love” has been sampled by so many urban artists (including Tupac, 50 Cent, and the Black Eyed Peas) that you’ve probably been nodding your head to them for years without even noticing.
In case you missed them, check out the indie releases from Oct. 16!
