This Week's Top Rap Releases (Oct. 30)
October closes out with a good variety of rap releases. This week’s offerings include albums from members of Maybach Music Group and Young Money, as well as a New York veteran.
Meek Mill, Dreams & Nightmares
The MMG affiliate will release his debut effort with help from singers Kirko Bangz, John Legend, Trey Songz, and Mary J. Blige; and from rappers Drake, Rick Ross, Nas, and Wale. Having worked for the past two years building his buzz, he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. He will take his special-blend, club-ready anthems and introspective tracks on a 23-date tour with Ross and Wale later this year.
Sean Price, Mic Tyson
The outspoken Brooklyn MC is releasing his third solo studio album. The project features collaborations with Torae, Buckshot and Pharoahe Monch and producers The Alchemist, 9th Wonder and Khrysis. In short, the LP represents everything that ever made New York rap special. Few songs are over the three-minute mark. Price opts for short, quick-to-the-point delivery that will leave most listeners reeling from the heat emitting from each preceding line.
Curren$y, Priest Andretti (mixtape)
Earlier this month, Curren$y whetted fans’ anticipation for his next mixtape, Priest Andretti, with the release of a vintage video. But, really, he didn’t have to do much. The New Orleans-bred rapper puts out an astounding amount of material every year. The Stoned Immaculate, the rapper’s Warner Bros. debut—and eighth album overall—hit stores in June. In July, he released the Cigarette Boats EP with producer Harry Fraud; and soon after his latest release, he will unleash his collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, entitled Live in Concert.
Also being released during the week of October 30 is a DJ Ill Will-hosted mixtape from Gudda Gudda called Guddaville 3. The features have not been announced, but expect some verses from the Young Money member’s team, including Wayne.
