Charlie Countryman director Fredrik Bond will direct the upcoming sequel to the hit action thriller Olympus Has Fallen. In London Has Fallen, the action moves from the lawn of the White House to London, England.
Bond, who is also a writer and actor, has impressed filmmakers enough to be on the short list to direct several high-profile projects, including Pirates of the Carribean 5, which ultimately signed up two directors, Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg.
Reprising their starring roles for the sequel will be Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart. Angela Bassett, who played Secret Service director Lynn Jacobs, will also return.
At the beginning of the film, U.S. president Benjamin Asher, played by Eckhart, is attending the funeral of the British Prime Minister, who has passed away under mysterious circumstances. The president’s indispensable Secret Service agent Mike Banning, portrayed by Butler, and U.S. Speaker of the House Trumbull (played by Freeman) are also at the service. All hell breaks loose when terrorists attack London.
The main writer for the latest version of the script is Christian Gudegast, known for writing the Vin Diesel action flick A Man Apart. Also contributing to the screenplay are Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger, who both worked on the first film as well as the newly released Expendables 3.
London Has Fallen is expected to hit theaters Oct. 2, 2015.
