Watch the New “Pain & Gain” Trailer
From director Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon) comes a new action-comedy flick, Pain & Gain, due to hit theaters April 26, 2013. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie, the film tells the true story of three down-on-their-luck personal trainers in 1990s Miami, whose attempt to get rich quick takes a dark turn when their extortion and kidnapping scheme goes horribly wrong.
Wahlberg plays Daniel Lugo, who was actually sentenced to death in real life for his crimes. Lugo and his buddies, each struggling with his own personal demons at the beginning of the film, quickly find themselves much deeper in crime than they had planned.
Interestingly, the film about the Sun Gym Gang is based not on a book, but on a series of magazine articles by Pete Collins. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. This gritty film, said to be one of Michael Bay’s passion projects, is a departure for the director, who wanted to do a small, inexpensive film after the Transformers series. In addition to directing the film, Bay is one of its producers, along with Donald DeLine and Ian Bryce.
From bodybuilding to hard partying to criminal activity, Pain & Gain is an action-packed guys’ movie, through and through.
