Peter Pan Origin Film Arriving June 2015
The little kid in all of us will meet his or her match when Warner Bros. releases its upcoming Peter Pan movie. Pan is set to premiere in theaters June 26, 2015 in 3D.
Joe Wright, known for his work on Hanna, Anna Karenina and Atonement, will direct the movie, which will reportedly be an origin story depicting Peter’s early years as an orphan and his growing up as a hero and troublemaker in Neverland.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the script from writer Jason Fuchs will show Peter developing a close friendship with a character long considered his arch nemesis—Captain Hook. The pirate will be part of Blackbeard’s crew, presumably aboard Queen Anne’s Revenge. Blackbeard makes it his mission to take down Peter Pan, and the youngster actually gets help from Hook to foil the villain. But along the way, a rift forms between Hook and Peter, and the root of their now infamous conflict begins to sprout.
The studio is reportedly looking for a fresh face for the lead role. Hugh Jackman is currently in talks to portray Blackbeard, reports Variety. Though he isn’t known for playing bad guys, Jackman has taken on darker roles recently (e.g., Prisoners) and for years he’s played Wolverine, not exactly the happiest hero. The role of Hook is also up for grabs. Ryan Gosling was being considered but he reportedly turned it down.
The movie will have plenty of competition in 2015. It is slated to come out during the same month as Jurassic World and a few weeks before another WB title, Batman vs. Superman.
