How do you lead a team that’s seeded 89th in a field of 144 to a second-place finish in the AAU National Volleyball Championships? You start with a smart training and conditioning program, then add hard work, dedication, faith, focus and effort.
That’s how Premier Volleyball Academy’s Premier 17 Onitsuka Team [Maumee, Ohio], under the leadership of head coach Jodi Schramm, fought through the tournament last week, compiling a 13-2 match record and earning a spot on the finalists’ podium. The team was also honored by having four of its players recognized as 2011 All-Americans: Maggie Halloran, Alaina Turner, Kelsey Lahey and Tara Heald.
