Raiders Punter Marquette King Proves That Punters Are Athletes too With Athletic 27-Yard Run
The Oakland Raiders beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 33- 16 on Sunday. The team had a great all-around effort, but player of the game honors belong to Raiders punter Marquette King. Punters don’t often get recognition, but King made a play to show that punters are athletes too.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Raiders were set to punt on fourth-and-24. An errant snap rolled to King, who thought about punting the ball, but instantly realized it would be blocked or he would get hit, resulting in a bad punt or worse. So King took off down the right sideline, speeding by every defender who had a chance to tackle him.
King picked up the first down, and the Raiders scored on the possession, putting the game out of reach for the Jaguars. Normally when a punter takes off running after a bad snap it doesn’t end well, but King has wheels. In 2012, he ran a 4.67-second 40-Yard Dash as a prospect. He looks to be in great shape, more like a wide receiver than a punter.
Besides the great run, King had a great punting game too. The 6-foot, 195-pounder had a 60-yard boomer, four punts inside the 20-yard line and an average of 54.6 yards per punt. Check out the punter with the speed of a receiver below.
