Rams RB Todd Gurley Loses 15 Pounds, Isn’t Sure Why
Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was a beast last season, becoming the first NFL rookie to run for at least 125 yards in four straight games and finishing the season as the league’s third leading rusher with 1,106 yards. He scored 10 touchdowns on the ground.

What made Gurley’s effort even more impressive was that he was coming back from surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered during his last year at the University of Georgia. This year is his first complete, injury-free off-season in the NFL. So how is the Offensive Rookie of the Year dealing with it?
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher says he had to instruct Gurley to take it down a notch. Fisher told ESPN, “He’s not missed a day and he’s running extra after practice. He’s doing everything to the point where you almost say, ‘Let’s back down a little bit.’ He’s had an impressive off-season.”

Gurley trained at EXOS Los Angeles, and says that during his workouts there he shed about 10 to 15 pounds—unintentionally. “I don’t know what happened this off-season. I was just losing weight. It’s probably just having the first off-season not doing anything for about a month or two. I feel fine how I am. I’m not going to add weight,” Gurley told ESPN.

The weight loss may affect his ability to truck defenders that get in his way. But his footwork looked pretty impressive during the Rams’ OTAs, so perhaps he’ll be better able to make people miss in the open field.
