Report: LeBron James Would Take a Pay Cut to Play With Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul
In an article on Bleacher Report, LeBron James expressed his desire to play alongside D-Wade, CP3 and Carmelo before his career is over. In fact, he said he’d be willing to take a pay cut to do so [Cleveland gasps].
“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together,” James said. “At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that.”
This comment would go over a lot more smoothly if things weren’t so downright weird between LeBron, the Cavs and the city of Cleveland right now. Earlier in the week, LeBron unfollowed the Cavs on Twitter and posted a cryptic Instagram message about Carmelo, CP3 and D-Wade. This is all taking place leading up to a summer during which LeBron will likely opt out of his two-year $47 million contract, like he did last summer. This allows him to increase his earning potential each season as the NBA expands its salary cap.
D-Wade will be a free agent at the end of this season, but Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul will still be under contract. We’ll have to wait and see if LeBron’s dream team ever comes together.
