Now Hear This: The Boss Rick Ross’s ‘Mastermind’
From “Hustlin” to “Aston Martin Music,” rapper Rick Ross (a.k.a. “The Boss”) has taken the rap game by storm, successfully escaping hip-hop feuds and dodging legal troubles to reinvent himself. The success of his last studio album, God Forgives, I Don’t, has added to the anticipation for his sixth album, Mastermind, set to be released within the next few months.
Specific details about the album have not yet been released by the Maybach Music Group. But fans can expect the likes of Wale, French Montana and Meek Millz to contribute at least a few verses to the album.
On Feb. 15, Ross released the album’s lead single, “Box Chevy,” featuring the heavy bass and hard-hitting snare that he’s become known for. On the track, Ross describes his life through the cars he’s owned, rapping “I started with a box Chevy, then I got the blue Lexus.” Watch the song’s 10-minute-long music video.
Many of Ross’s fans are looking forward to his collaboration with the Justice League production team. They helped Ross discover his unique sound on such chart-topping hits as “Aston Martin Music” and “Maybach Music.” What will be his next hit? Ross and his production team are currently whipping it up.
As fans have come to expect, Ross’s upcoming album is surrounded by controversy. This time, the drama is a product of his “date rape” lyric on the rapper Rocko’s song,”U.O.E.N.O.” So far, the lyric has cost the Ross his Reebok partnership and stirred up plenty of strife within the music world.
