Rob Zombie Will Direct Groucho Marx Biopic
Director Rob Zombie is on board to direct the upcoming Groucho Marx feature film biopic, Raised Eyebrows.
Focusing on the legendary comic’s later years, the film is based on the 1996 book, Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House, by Steve Stoliar, who served as Marx’s personal secretary before the entertainer died in 1977. Stoliar also had opportunities to meet and spend time with other Hollywood comedy icons, including: Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon, George Burns and former Tonight Show host Steve Allen.
Arguably the most famous of the popular Marx Brothers comedy team, the wise-cracking, bushy eyebrowed Groucho continued to have success after his movie career as host of the memorable TV quiz show, You Bet Your Life.
Writing the screenplay is Oren Moverman, who has experience writing provocative biopics. He previously wrote the imaginative Bob Dylan biography I’m Not There and more recently the film Love & Mercy, about troubled Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson.
Zombie has frequently worked in the horror genre. Besides Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009), his directorial credits include thriller The Lords of Salem.
