Robin Williams Christmas Comedy Set to Release in November
One of the final unreleased projects starring the amazing Robin Williams is the big screen comedy, A Merry Friggin’ Christmas. The movie was originally expected to debut in limited release, but has been receiving more attention since Williams’s death in August. The comedian’s fans will no doubt be anxious to see him in one of his last film roles.
The storyline revolves around Boyd Mitchler (played by Community’s Joel McHale) and his wife Luann, who are trying to get through Christmas with his estranged family, which features an assortment of oddball characters. The main focus of the movie is an eight-hour road trip through a blizzard, which Boyd endures with his father (Williams), prompted by the discovery that Boyd left all of his son’s Christmas presents at home. It’s going to be tough enough to retrieve the gifts and make it back before sunrise, but having his eccentric father along for the ride doesn’t make things any easier.
In the role of Boyd’s wife Luann is Lauren Graham, best known for the series Gilmore Girls and currently Parenthood. The film also stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (Think Like a Man Too), Oliver Platt (X-Men: First Class) and veteran comedic actress Candice Bergen.
The film was directed by Tristram Shapeero (Community) and was written by newcomer Matthew Brown.
A Merry Friggin’ Christmas is due to arrive in theaters Nov. 7.
