Ron Perlman Reveals ‘Hellboy III’ Details
There’s a good chance Hellboy III will materialize. Based on the comic book by Mike Mignola, the film is expected to be written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, who wrote and directed the first two pictures in the series.
Franchise star Ron Perlman is on board to reprise the title role as the demon who ultimately becomes a defender against dark forces. He recently revealed exciting new details about the storyline of Hellboy III, when he spoke to Empire. He also admitted his reluctance to do a third Hellboy and what changed his mind.
“I really feel as though I’m done with the character,” he said. “But Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it’s such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it. We were designed to be a trilogy—so I feel that we’re not really done until we finish it.”
Talking specifically about del Toro’s amazing idea, Perlman added, “Holy sh*t, he’s the beast of the Apocalypse. He has to take down civilization. He has to. It’s non-negotiable. That’s the foundation for the story, and that’s why I think it would be a shame if we don’t do it.”
According to the actor, the twins that Liz Sherman was pregnant with at the end of Hellboy II turned out to be completely opposite in looks and spirit. The twist is that the totally corrupt twin looks like an angel, while the good one looks like the dad.
Rumor has it that Doug Jones will be returning in his role as Abe Sapien.
