Ronan the Accuser to be the Villian of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’?
Lee Pace’s casting for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie has opened up questions about the film’s villain. Thanos was initially rumored to be the bad guy, but could it really be Ronan the Accuser?
If Ronan is the villain, we have even more questions. What master will he be serving? Supreme Intelligence or Thanos and his empire? The studio seems to favor Ultimate Marvel for its adaptations, so he’ll more than likely pledge allegiance to Thanos and put up roadblocks before the good guys get their hands on The Mad Titan. Making sure Guardians of the Galaxy includes Thanos, who appeared at the end of The Avengers, would certainly fit into Marvel’s strategy to link all of its movies.
Ronan’s introduction could also lead us deeper into the war between the Kree and the Skrull, which eventually plays out on Earth in a plot that involves Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, the brother-sister duo whom director Joss Whedon has already hinted at featuring in Avengers 2. Could that mean we’ll also get to see Captain Marvel soon? Of course, they could sidestep the war and draw inspiration from Annihilation Conquest, a storyline in which the Phalanx is defeated by the Guardians.
Production is expected to start soon for the movie, which is being written and directed by James Dunn. We should know more soon. Confirmed so far for the cast are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, and Enzo Cilenti.
Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014. Avengers 2 will follow May 1, 2015.
