Mark Ingram has been in the NFL since 2011, but it wasn’t until last season that the former Alabama running back truly broke out. In fairness, the New Orleans Saints have long used multiple running backs as a part of their offense, with Ingram sharing time in the backfield with guys like Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory and Darren Sproles. Still, it was a thrill to see Ingram fully unleashed as the main running back in New Orleans last season, when he carried the ball 205 times for 1,043 yards and six touchdowns.
Despite Ingram’s individual success, the Saints went just 7-9, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season. Judging from some of Ingram’s offseason workouts, he’s determined to end that streak in 2017.
Ingram has spent some time boxing this winter, both as a workout and cardio device and to improve his hand speed. It will also come in handy if, you know, someone tries to break into the Ingram family home, as the “jus in case” line in his tweet seems to reference.
Throwing hands isn’t the only activity Ingram has engaged in as he trains this offseason. He also gave us a brief look at some of his speed training, sprinting to top speed on an inclined, self-propelled treadmill and working on his 10-yard bursts.
With a hungry and well-conditioned Ingram lining up behind Drew Brees this season, opposing defenses have been officially put on notice.
