Samuel L. Jackson to Star in Remake of ‘The Blob’
Samuel L. Jackson is set to star in the upcoming remake of the classic sci-fi horror film The Blob. Recently seen in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jackson plays biochemistry professor who tries to stop a dangerous, otherworldly life form that has been detected deep within the Earth, posing a threat to a small town.
British director Simon West (Expendables 2) will direct the new version of this thriller. The original film starred Steve McQueen and told the story of an alien creature that consumes everything in its path, growing bigger and bigger.
West expressed excitement over the prospect of teaming up with Jackson, saying: “I have been waiting to work with Samuel L. Jackson my whole career. He is a unique talent in the industry, definitely one of a kind. I am so pleased that we will finally get to collaborate on this project.”
Jack H. Harris, the now 96-year-old producer of the original 1958 film, is onboard to produce the remake, alongside Brian Witten (The Wedding Singer), Richard Saperstein (Hancock) and Tae-won Chung, best known for the action TV series Iris.
This is not the first time filmmakers have revisited the cult classic, which was remade in 1988 and starred Shawnee Smith.
This latest version of The Blob is expected to begin filming in the fall.
