Rap News Rundown: ScHoolboy Q, T.I., Meek Mill, Rick Ross
Last week, ScHoolboy Q was involved in a shooting, T.I. got into it with Azealia Banks, Meek Mill’s beef with the Philly police department added a new chapter, and Rick Ross’s gangster pass got rejected in the D.
ScHoolboy Q Involved in Shooting in Denver
ScHoolboy Q’s car was targeted by a shooter following his concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. The rapper wasn’t harmed, but three other passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries. Investigators believe the performer’s vehicle was targeted, but they said they were unaware of any motive.
“We do not believe this is a random shooting into a crowd,” said Jefferson County Sheriff spokesman Mark Techmeyer. “We don’t know what the motive would have been for the shooter, or what the connection is with the victims.”
Q didn’t say much after the incident. He assured fans on Twitter he was fine and announced plans to continue on his tour. “I’m str8… don’t trip,” he wrote. “and I’m still going to Iceland [tomorrow] and New York Wednesday.”
T.I. & Azealia Banks Spar On Twitter
Azealia Banks looped T.I. and his wife into her scheme to remain relevant last week. Commenting on Tip’s new single “No Mediocre,” Banks tweeted, “U want no mediocre but… have you seen your wife?”
T.I. responded by posting an unflattering picture of Banks with an equally unflattering caption, calling her—among other things—”ugly.”
This isn’t the first time the two have sparred on Twitter. Banks called out Tip for getting involved in her beef with Iggy Azalea back in 2012 and referred to him as “corny.”
Meek Mill Sued by Former Police Officer
Meek Mill is being sued by former Philadelphia police officer Andre Boyer. In his suit, the ex-cop alleges that the rapper tarnished his reputation and affected his “relationship performance” with his fiancé. He is looking for $750,000 in damages.
“I was going through emotional anguish, and the fact the case got so much publicity really affected me physically and emotionally,” said Boyer to Philly.com. “It changed my mood and my personality, and how I converse with my fiancé.”
In 2012, Boyer and another officer, Alvin Outlaw, arrested Meek on Halloween for possession of marijuana, despite finding no drugs on the rappers or in their vehicle. The Maybach Music rapper sued the police for the illegal arrest and claimed that it cost him several business deals. His claim was ultimately denied.
Rick Ross Denied Entry Into Detroit Concert
Rick Ross was slated to perform at Hot 107.5’s Summer Jamz concert in Detroit this weekend, but was denied entry by a mob outside the stadium. The radio station’s director Jay Hicks told the crowd the rapper wouldn’t take the stage.
“I’m going to be real with y’all … We had Rick Ross right outside here tonight. At about 11 o’clock, when he was pulling up to come into Chene Park, he was met by 100 individuals outside. We have tried to pull every resource together and asked [Ross] to come back. He is in fear of his life,” Hicks asserted.
The mob’s actions is thought to be connected to Detroit native Trick Trick’s single “No Fly Zone,” which calls for a ban on all artists who don’t collaborate with Detroit artists.
