Despite his age (he’s 44 years old), Shaquille O’Neal remains a ridiculously enormous person. When the Hall of Fame big man strolls through any room, it still feels like there’s a giant in your midst. Your eyes gravitate toward him like there’s some sort of magnetic pull. Despite his iconic presence in our culture, both on and off the court, for decades, Shaq still doesn’t feel entirely real.

Shaq’s mythology grows even larger when you place your normal-sized shoe next to his super-mammoth one. I had the opportunity to do just that during NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, when Shaq made an appearance at Sneaker Politics for the release of a special, LSU-themed Reebok Shaq Attaq to celebrate the shoe’s 25th anniversary. Here’s what my size 12 looked like next to Shaq’s size 22.
No human being should require a shoe that large. The print it leaves in the ground might elicit the same reaction as when humans discovered dinosaur footprints. Shaq is huge, and there’s no better proof of that than getting an up close and personal look at his size 22 kicks.
