Since proper sleep can improve athletic performance, it’s no surprise that athletes are seeking new and improved ways to obtain their ever-so-important restful sleep. Recently, some professional athletes, including Houston Texans RB Ben Tate, Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro WR Steve Smith and Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae, have turned to SHEEX performance sheets to help them find performance-enhancing slumber.
Developed by former athletes with athletes in mind, SHEEX are touted as performance bed sheets that can improve the quality of an athlete’s sleep and deliver recovery benefits. According to the makers of SHEEX, sleep quality is directly tied to temperature, with cooler temperatures providing a better sleep environment (which is perhaps why we often fall asleep soon after flipping our pillows to the cooler side).
According to SHEEX.com, “The human body experiences a slight drop in body temperature right before falling to sleep. Traditional sheets trap heat and can disrupt sleep. SHEEX performance fabric breathes better, allowing your body to do its job naturally.”
Improved sleep quality can subsequently help athletes improve their performance by allowing them to take advantage of sleep’s powerful ability to improve recovery, reaction time, strength and endurance.
Testing conducted at the North Carolina State University Center for Research on Textile Protection and Comfort demonstrates that SHEEX performance bedding holds a proven advantage over cotton in enabling and maintaining the following optimum conditions for sleep:
- Temperature Control
Transfers body heat two times better than traditional bedding
- Moisture Transport
Wicking properties keep you dry and comfortable
Breathes nearly 50 perfect better than cotton
- Precision Fit
Flexible microfibers offer optimum fit on all mattress types
- Superior Feel
Ridiculously soft and luxurious to the touch
Advanced fade, wrinkle and shrink resistance
Upon opening our box of SHEEX, we immediately felt a difference between the material and that of traditional sheets. The SHEEX were extremely stretchy and form-fitting because of Lycra content within the fabric. In addition, the SHEEX were considerably smoother, softer and silkier than our cotton sheets. During our sleep test, we felt a noticeable temperature and comfort difference before falling asleep—the SHEEX remained cool and provided a snug fit throughout the night.
While we haven’t yet been able to confirm any performance enhancement benefits, we can say without a doubt that SHEEX provide a cool, restful night’s sleep.
