Sony Reveals New PS4 Details
As speculated, Sony revealed new details about the PlayStation 4 at an event in New York on Wednesday.
The PS4 boasts a X86 CPU, an enhanced graphics processor and 8GB of memory, a huge upgrade from the 256MB of memory in the PS3. To conserve power, the PS4 will be able to power itself down to a low state without affecting gameplay. It will also have a secondary chip, which will handle any downloads, allowing a gamer to play while a download is ongoing.
Sony boasted about the PS4’s stunning PC-level graphics, and the company really went out of its way to promote the PS4’s integration with social media, specifically the Gaikai cloud service. Gaikai allows players to experience any game for free, post clips of their play and communicate with fellow gamers.
Titles that can be expected on release include Knack, Killzone Shadowfall, Drive Club and Infamous: Second Son. Sony revealed that its has been working with Blizzard on a Diablo III release for both the PS3 and PS4.
Sony did not release any photos or illustration concepts of the system, nor did the company provide pricing information. However, presenters did show off the new Dual Shock 4 controller, which has a front touch pad and motion sensor bar.
A 2013 release was promised, in time for Christmas.
