Rap News Rundown: Soulja Boy, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Rich Homie Quan
Soulja Boy Charged With Gun, Marijuana Possession
Soulja Boy was recently charged with gun and marijuana possession in connection with a routine traffic stop in California in January. The rapper was initially pulled over for running a stop sign. Officers discovered a gun under the passenger seat and arrested him. He has since accused the authorities of illegally searching the car and claimed the weapon did not belong to him.
The “Crank That” rapper is charged with unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, which is a misdemeanor. Thus far, he hasn’t responded directly to the charges, but he did write on Twitter, “I’m going to live my life and be happy regardless of what the situation is.”
Chris Brown Responds to Reports of Gang Ties
Recent reports of gang-related violence following singer Chris Brown have fueled speculation about his alleged affiliation with the Bloods. Despite rumors that his family is concerned about how gang ties will effect his personal and professional life, during a recent interview with MTV News, the singer said they have nothing to worry about because he isn’t a member of the gang.
“When you’re in L.A. and you’re around people, you meet everybody—you meet Crips, you meet Bloods, especially in this industry that I’m in,” he explained. “I’m not in the Country world. I’m not in the all-the-way Pop world. You in Hip Hop and R&B, and all of that meshes together, especially when you’re in these events or these places where everybody can be there. I’m cordial.”
Wiz Khalifa & Amber Rose Split Amid Cheating Allegations
Amber Rose shocked everyone when she filed to end her one-year marriage to rapper Wiz Khalifa. Initial reports hinted that her new manager Nick Cannon played a role in the break-up, but Rose adamantly denied cheating, claiming that it was actually Wiz who stepped outside their marriage.
Peter Rosenberg, a radio personality and close friend of Rose, revealed that Rose decided to end the marriage after she found Wiz in bed with twins inside one of the homes they shared. She has now reportedly moved on with a new guy, Nick Simmons, son of legendary rocker Gene Simmons, and Wiz has announced plans to embark on another tour.
Rich Homie Quan’s Father Shot in Attempted Robbery
Rich Homie Quan’s father was reportedly shot four times inside his barber shop during an attempted robbery last week. He is listed in critical condition at a local hospital. The Atlanta-based rapper’s label released a statement regarding the incident, denying a connection to any ongoing beef involving Rich Homie.
“Unfortunately RHQ’s father Corey Lamar was shot due to an attempted robbery in his barbershop. We don’t know how the news traveled so fast. Was this gang/beef related? Not that we know of. Quan’s dad is doing better now and in the healing process. We’re just asking all of his fans to support and honor the privacy of Rich Homie Quan and his family as they push through. We at TIG records wish him well and a speedy recovery,” read the statement sent to XXL.
