Rap News Rundown: Soulja Boy, Lil Mouse and Chief Keef
Young rappers ruled the headlines last week. Soulja was implicated in a hit-and-run in Los Angeles, Lil Mouse threatened a third-grader and Chief Keef got arrested in Atlanta.
Soulja Boy’s Car Involved in Hit-and-Run
A secret network of cameras around L.A. helped connect rapper Soulja Boy to a hit-and-run accident from January. According to TMZ, the performer’s red Bentley was in an accident involving a motorcyclist who was seriously injured. The car fled the scene, but the injured victim’s friend visited local establishments to find out who owned the vehicle. It was traced back to SB, and police were able to find pictures of his car with damage that corresponded with the accident. Police impounded the car, but it has since been repaired. Authorities are asking for witnesses to come forward.
Lil Mouse Allegedly Assaults and Threatens Third-Grader
Lil Mouse has been accused of slapping and threatening the life of a third grader at West Pullman Elementary School in Chicago. The victim went to report the incident and was allegedly threatened by other students for snitching. The victim’s grandmother filed a police report against the 13-year-old rapper and said she received threats from a parent of one of the other students involved. She is reportedly hoping to get out of town as fast as possible out of fear of retaliation.
Lil Mouse has accused the media of being behind the incident. “Da media always tryna put dirt on my name,” wrote the Chi-town rapper on Twitter.
Chief Keef Gets Arrested; Argues With Katy Perry
It’s been a bad week for Chi-town rapper Chief Keef. The performer was arrested at the LeMeridan Hotel in Dunwoody, Ga. last Monday for disorderly conduct. A hotel security officer knocked on the rapper’s hotel room after smelling marijuana smoke and was reportedly shocked that the teen star opened the door and continued to smoke in his presence. The cops were called and Keef was taken to Dekalb County Jail. He was released shortly thereafter.
Things didn’t get better from there. On Tuesday, pop singer Katy Perry posted a message on her Twitter account regarding one of his singles. “Just heard a new song on the radio called ‘I hate being sober’ I now have serious doubt for the world,” tweeted Perry. Keef reacted by tweeting about a lewd sexual act he’d like her to perform and then threatened to “smack the sh** out her.”
Perry apologized, saying she wasn’t even aware that it was Keef’s song. “Mr. Keef! I’m sorry if I offended you. I heard a lot of people guesting on the song and didn’t even know it was you in particular,” said the singer, who also revealed she was a fan of his first song, “Don’t Like.”
Her kind words appeared to be enough to appease the rapper who later tweeted: “Oh I’m sorry too then.”
