According to reports, the upcoming Spider-Man reboot has already found a director. Latino Review reports the studio has settled on Drew Goddard to bring Spidey back to the big screen.
Goddard, who was once linked to the offshoot Sinister Six film, will direct and write the script for the film. Some of his past flicks include 2012’s The Cabin in the Woods and 2013’s World War Z. This isn’t his first deal with Marvel; he was slated to run their forthcoming Netflix series Daredevil, but subsequently pulled out to devote his attention to Peter Parker.
LR says the series will potentially be titled The Spectacular Spider-Man and will once again start Parker’s story in high school with hopes that audiences will take to the film, so they can produce several blockbusters. To help with that, “a major part of the first film will involve Spider-Man fighting Iron Man and trying to pass the ‘audition’ to join the Avengers,” reports the site.
Other rumors suggest that Sony and Marvel might change Peter Parker’s race (as opposed to just using Miles Morales) in hopes of attracting a larger audience.
All hope is not lost for fans hoping to see the Sinister Six on the big screen. The bevy of bad guys will reportedly play a role in the first stand-alone, perhaps as just a tease, with the intention of getting introduced later, once Sony and Marvel are assured that Spider-Man can survive a second reboot.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed when we’ll get our first look at the new Peter Parker, but it is thought he will appear in the next Captain America film Civil War, which premieres May 6, 2016.
