New adidas Running Shoe Puts Spring in Your Step—Literally
During a long run or a tough sprint, who hasn’t wished that their shoes could give them a little extra boost forward? A new model running shoe from adidas, the Springblade, attempts to do exactly that. The shoe has individually tuned blades designed to help propel you forward with each step.
Like the Energy Boost before it, the Springblade aims to increase your energy return during a run, but this time it does so with 16 angled blades attached to the sole. The blades compress and release energy, creating a better push off. According to James Carnes, global creative director of performance at adidas, the Springblade was inspired “by everyday objects that deliver explosive energy returns,” like a springboard, pole vault or motorcycle suspension.
The Springblade hits retailers and adidas.com on Aug. 1 at a price of $180. Click through the slideshow for a closer look at the shoe.
