Behind The Scenes at STACK Media in Cleveland
Athletes across the country know that STACK bridges the gap between them and superstars like Dwight Howard, Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow. Now it’s time to bridge the gap between you and some of the folks behind STACK Media.Last night, WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland, aired a “What Works” segment on STACK Media (see video above), sharing the story of how the company has grown from a magazine publisher to a digital media powerhouse, all while remaining focused on serving you, the athlete. Co-founder Chad Zimmerman said, “STACK Media is a company dedicated to helping athletes. Our goal has always been to bring training, nutrition, skill, gear and lifestyle advice to athletes of all ages.”
STACK magazine launched in February 2005, but the company soon went online to meet the daily needs of its audience. “We consistently create daily online articles [and videos], and those roll out anywhere from four to six a day,” said VP of content Josh Staph.
“We knew video was going to be really big,” added Zimmerman. “Rather than just sending a writer and a photographer [to do a story], let’s send somebody with a video camera and create this great, exclusive video content. Let’s put it up on the web. And now athletes all across the country can hear directly from these elite professional athletes and learn from them.”
Zosimo Maximo, senior content director, related how STACK Media has “grown along with the evolution of digital media, and how audiences consume content, so they’ve been right there in the forefront.” A nice accomplishment. But even more amazing is the fact that the company has experienced its biggest growth since the economic downturn in 2008. “I think STACK Media, with STACK.com, our magazine—all that works because we’re mission driven,” said Zimmerman.
Today, STACK magazine has a circulation of 800,000 with a readership of nearly five million, and STACK Media’s network on the web receives six million monthly unique visitors. Every day we push ourselves to stay in the vanguard of digital media while continuing to serve the needs of athletes and help them reach their sports performance and lifestyle goals safely and effectively.
