STACK’s Gatorade Athlete Performance Testing: Part I
The folks at Gatorade were kind enough to invite STACK to participate in the Gatorade Sports Science Institute [GSSI] athlete performance testing program, which is fueled by G Series products. My STACK colleague Josh Staph and I embarked on this training and nutrition journey to experience the program that Gatorade offers its elite athletes—and to attempt to make physical and training improvements of our own.
The program begins with a series of baseline tests administered by GSSI scientists. [See the video above for a few of the tests.] The results are then used to design a custom training and fueling plan with the goal of curing physical deficiencies and maximizing training through proper fueling before, during and after exercise. According to Gatorade, the fueling plan is not a full nutrition plan or diet, but, rather, an effort to supply the athlete with hydration, energy and nutrients needed for peak performance, in conjunction with a balanced diet.
For eight weeks, Josh and I will perform a custom training plan provided by Todd Durkin. We will also use G Series products before, during and after our training sessions to fuel our workouts. Look for new posts each week providing updates on our progress—and our rivalry—culminating during the Super Bowl week, when Josh and I travel to Dallas to retest for a final evaluation of results.
This was a great opportunity for us to experience how Gatorade helps their athletes take performance gains to the next level, and we want to thank Gatorade for allowing us to participate in this exclusive program.
