‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Will Take Place 30 Years After ‘Return of the Jedi’
We finally have some confirmed Star Wars info! During Disney’s annual shareholders meeting on March 18, exec Bob Iger revealed the position of Star Wars: Episode VII in the series timeline.
The story takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. This timing supports earlier rumors suggesting that the film will focus on the children of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. “There will be some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads,” Iger said.
Despite all the rumors however, only one role has been secured thus far. Iger said, “Rumor has it that almost every actor in the world has been cast in this movie, but so far, the official cast member that we’ve confirmed, the only one, is R2-D2. Played by R2-D2.”
He offered no additional information, telling the group, “I know many of you were hoping for some Star Wars news, but it’s really early in the process, so there really isn’t much that I can share with you right now.”
If you believe the rumors, Jesse Plemons, John Boyega, Matthew James Thomas, Saoirse Ronan and Lupita Nyong’o are front runners for lead roles in the film. Adam Driver is thought to be close to signing on to play a villain. Of course, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are expected to return as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to premiere in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
