Watch the New Short for ‘Star Wars Rebels’
As the Star Wars Rebels premiere date inches closer, Disney has been introducing fans to new characters through a series of shorts. The latest clip, “Entanglement,” features Ghost crew member Zeb Orrelios, who will be voiced by Steve Blum. Check it out below!
Although he is described as the “muscle,” Zeb demonstrates in the video that he’s got more to offer. He may be a bit directionally challenged, but he quickly dispenses with several stormtroopers and has fun doing it. Throughout the short, he trades quips with Kanan Jarrus, the Cowboy Jedi (voiced by Freddie Prince, Jr.). Physically, Zeb resembles Ralph McQuarrie’s original design for Chewbacca, and his relationship with Kanan is similar to Chewie’s camaraderie with Han.
Taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Star Wars Rebels explores the early days of the Rebel Alliance. Joining Zeb and Kanan are Ezra Bridger, a young con artist (voiced by Taylor Gray); Sabine Wren, a weapons and combat expert (voiced by Tiya Sircar); and Hera Syndulla, a pilot (voiced by Vanessa Marshall). Of course, they encounter resistance, most of which is orchestrated by the Inquisitor (Jason Issacs) and minions like Agent Kallus (David Oyelowo).
Executive producer Simon Kinberg knows that the series will inevitably be compared to its predecessor, Clone Wars, but he hopes that fans will give it a chance. “I think Clone Wars is more akin to the prequels, and Rebels is more akin to the original trilogy,” Kinberg said at SDCC earlier this year. “Clone is a slightly more story-driven, slightly darker show, and Rebels is a more character-driven, inspirational show, in a way the original movies were.”
Star Wars Rebels will debut on the Disney channel on Oct. 3 at 9 p.m., then run on Disney XD on Oct. 13. If you can’t wait, a one-hour special called “Spark of Rebellion” will premiere online at WATCHDisneyXD.com and via the Disney XD app on Sept. 29.
