Here’s the ‘Suicide Squad’ Cast
Earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced the cast of the upcoming DC adaptation Suicide Squad. The impressive roster includes A-list actors Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto, who star as Deadshot, Rick Flagg and the Joker, respectively. They are joined by Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, the Joker’s part-time lover and accomplice; model Cara Delevingne, who takes on the role of June Moone, a.k.a. The Enchantress; and Jai Courtney, who portrays Spider-Man supervillain Boomerang.
In a statement announcing the casting, WB exec Greg Silverman mentioned that writer David Ayer will return to write the script and direct. Silverman said, “[Ayer] returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of long-time Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to make an appearance in the film as Lex Luthor, but it’s unclear if that’s still in the works. The role of Amanda Waller, the shady government agent who oversees the team of bad guys, still hasn’t been filled. According to Variety, the studio is pursuing Oprah Winfrey and other big names like Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.
Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 5, 2016. Zack Snyder will executive produce.
