During October's Nintendo Direct broadcast, Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata announced Nov. 22 as the release date for the much-anticipated Super Mario 3D World. The game is Nintendo's first featuring a 3D multiplayer environment with the Mario franchise characters. It allows up to four players to explore a new fast-paced, action-packed, 3D world, including racing through mazes of pipes, conveyor belts, obstacles and surprises. Gamers can play as one of four popular Mario characters—Mario, Luigi, Toad or, of course, Princess Peach.
The game showcases each character's special skills and abilities as they work through the levels. Luigi jumps extra high. Princess Peach can glide. Characters have a new ability known as the "cat transformation," allowing them to use claws to reach their goal by climbing up walls, running on all fours, and even hitting enemies with midair sneak attacks. Players use the touchscreen on the Wii U Gamepad to search for hidden blocks and other surprises.
Super Mario 3D World is available for pre-order.
