Chloe Grace Moretz (The Equalizer) stars as 16-year-old Cassie Sullivan, a teen struggling to survive in the dystopian thriller The 5th Wave.
In the film, present-day Earth has been decimated by four waves of progressively devastating alien attacks. Cassie is on the run and shouldering more responsibility than any adolescent should ever have to take on. Not only does she have to look out for herself during the crisis, the fate of her younger brother may depend on her as well.
The film is based on Rick Yancey’s bestselling sci-fi novel, in which aliens try to wipe out the human race and come close to succeeding. With nothing but bare survival essentials, Cassie is determined to save her brother. With desperation looming, she meets up with a former schoolmate, Ben, who has also managed to survive. Deriving strength from their partnership, the two set out to take on the aliens and save Cassie’s brother.
Co-starring with Moretz is Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson, who plays Ben. The cast also features Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Ron Livingston (Boardwalk Empire), Maria Bello (McFarland USA) and Maika Monroe (The Guest).
The screenplay was written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich; 28 Days). J. Blakeson is directing this movie, which is a follow-up to his directorial debut with the 2009 thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed.
The 5th Wave hits theaters Jan. 15, 2016.
