Subtitle of ‘The Terminator’ Reboot Is Revealed
The forthcoming Terminator reboot will shed its Terminator 5 working title and officially become known as Terminator: Genesis, according to Production Weekly. Alan Taylor, who has long been rumored to take the reins, was confirmed by the site as the director of the reboot.
Though hardly exciting, the word “genesis” in the subtitle serves two purposes: a reminder that the film is a complete reboot and not attached to its predecessors in the series; and a confirmation of rumors that it will be a prequel. Presumably, Taylor will attempt to anchor the franchise by going back to the beginning—using the same characters but at different stages in their lives. During a press run in late October, Taylor said he envisioned fashioning the reboot after Christopher Nolan’s work on The Dark Knight trilogy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to appear in the film, but it’s unclear how prominent his role will be. Reports place actresses Brie Larson (United States of Tara) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) on the short list to portray Sarah Connor. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Tom Hardy is being considered for the role of John Connor. It’s unclear how the similar ages of Hardy and the actresses who would play his mother will be handled in the movie. Maybe there is a time jump? Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) is rumored to be in the running to play Sarah’s love interest, Kyle Reese.
Terminator: Genesis will reach theaters on July 1, 2015.
