Kirk Gibson played like his hair was on fire for 17 MLB seasons.
This photo is from 1995, Gibson's final year as a player.
Even at 38 years old, he was still willing to put his body on the line like few others.
Playing for the Detroit Tigers, old man Gibson bulldozed Kansas City Royals catcher Pat Borders on a close play at the plate.
Gibson would later reveal to Sports Illustrated, which is where the photo first ran, that he intentionally aimed his right forearm for Borders' throat prior to the collision.
You can even see his eyes are fixed on that very target in this photo.
Borders was unable to hold onto the ball, allowing Gibson to score the run.
